Here’s a few minutes from my last two months of animation effort. My work-flow has started to formalized with the primary work being done in ToonBoom Animate with a completely digital approach, and select sequences put together in Blender 3D and Photoshop.
2012 Movie Poster – Lil’ Red Kap is the name!
Here’s an updated movie poster for the film, Lil’ Red Kap (formerly Little Red Kap). This is much closer to the storyline, since so much has been rewritten since I started this project last year. Enjoy.
New Years Resolutions and the Film
I just finished the first 00:03:17:00 of animation for the film, making this part of the process about 15% complete, and putting me on track to being finished by July 2012. I feel pretty good, considering that in 2011 I spent most of the year messing around with the script and storyboard, and trying to [...]
Little Red Kap Intro Posted
Now that the storyboard is complete, the focus can turn to actually creating final frames. The goal is to push through the entire film at a specific level and then return perfect any areas that seem out of place. The above intro actually cam in under my estimated time – all good news when I’m [...]
Storyboard done…now onto production
This weekend I was able to finish up the storyboard. It was a mad push of index cards and lead, but all 608 sketches (which only I can understand) have been strung together to make up a 20 minute film. Now that this part is done, it’s onto creating the production stills for each scene, [...]
3D Leads 2D Animation Pipeline Test
After finishing the Marakov model, I had the 3D element I needed to then animate this short 6 second segment. This segment was a chance to test the full production pipeline, and to ensure I had the tools (software, skills, etc) to pull it off. The video above is the result. After completing this test, [...]
The Soviet Marakov Pistol with Suppressor
One thing that’s a lot of fun when undertaking a big project like an animated film, is the chance to research details that enhance the story, that you might known when starting out. The Marakov is a Soviet-made 9mm pistol, that was standard issue side-arm for the military, up until 1991. The version I feature [...]
Major Volk – Character Sheet
If Kiska’s the star, Major Volk’s the evil villain. In a Soviet army that’s become corrupt, he’s a Major with little experience, promoted more based on family ties than any accomplishments. And of course he has a taste for Kiska. In the Little Red Riding story, he’s the wolf, with a preference for Sobranie Black [...]
Kiska – Character Sheet
Meet Kiska, the star of Little Red Kap. While I’ve not posted much lately, work has been going on behind the scenes – most notably testing various animation pipelines and drawing tools. This drawing was done completely in the computer (no pencil scans) – drawn and colored in ToonBoom’s Animate 2. The more I work [...]
Script Breakdown, Scene 1
Little Red Kap Scene 1 Animatic from Nate Sullivan on Vimeo. Progress is being made. First, I was able to get a very simple skin on this template by StudioPress. It’s not perfect, but it should the job and let me focus on animation. That’s the point right? Second, I was able to breakdown the [...]
